THE FRESHMAN CLASS could be considered a group of semi-polished projects. Young but talented, they bring impressive credentials as the future of the tradition-rich program.
All were named to prepvolleyball.com’s top 100 Senior Aces following stellar high school seasons.
Middle Amanda Simmons also was a Fab 50 pick by Volleyball magazine and was on the U.S. junior national A2 team this summer.
Athletic, fearless and eager to learn, the four hope to contribute to this season’s success. Dani Mafua, who trained under All-American Kanoe Kamana’o as a redshirt last year, will battle for the starting setter position. Elizabeth Ka’aihue is transitioning to libero. Middle Amanda Simmons and Stephanie Ferrell may have to wait before shining in the middle and outside, respectively, as there are experienced, talented teammates ahead of both of them.
