Strengths · Utah State doesn’t have a lot of stock folks around the country would be interested in, but one of the exceptions is wideout Kevin Robinson.
Not only is the senior dangerous on pass routes, he’s flat out scary in the open field on punt returns and kickoffs. He has returned four kicks for touchdowns in his Aggie career and caught 16 touchdown passes as well. He’s got game.
He’s the exception that proves the rule for third-year head coach Brent Guy, who started 20 freshmen in 2005 and 16 last season. All 11 return from a defense ranked near the bottom nationally in every statistical category. Guy is hopeful improvement will come through experience.
His role model is sophomore linebacker Paul Igboeli, who was the league’s freshman of the year in 2006. He was second on the team with 69 tackles.
WEAKNESS · The Aggies have a bad combination of not scoring and yielding way too many points. It led to a 1-11 season for the Aggies, whose lone win was at home vs. reeling Fresno State. That November re-match in Fresno this year has a red circle on it for everyone with a calendar in the Bulldog nation.
But the Aggies can’t worry about that. They return 18 starters, who have a good idea what the coaching staff wants to get done.
As for Guy, he knows the time is now. He got the new end zone complex locker rooms he was looking for to help in recruiting. He’s got to show some sign of progress to stay around much longer.
