2008 equals added fortune

This particular year promises even more good luck for 08-08,a numerologist says

By Nancy Arcayna

While it’s true that every century has an 08-08-08, this century’s is particularly lucky, in numerological terms.

“As lucky as the 8s are, the whole number is taken into consideration,” explained numerologist Cheryl Niggle. “When we add this up for this year, we have to consider 8 (for August), 8 (for the day) and 2008 (for the year). So we have in total 8+8+2+8, which equals 26, which also breaks down to 8 (2+6).”

Such a combination hasn’t occurred in centuries. Adding up the same components for Aug. 8, 1908, results in seven, for example, while 1808 was a six year and 1708 reduced to five.

LAST YEAR’S lucky date, July 7, 2007, added up to five - which again doesn’t measure up to this year’s all-8s.

“In the last couple of hundred years, we have not experienced a day that comes with that kind of vibration,” Niggle said.

Hawaii carries an additional 8 vibration, as the initial letter H is the eighth in the alphabet. The only other two letters that carry an 8 vibration are Q and Z (the 17th and 26th letters, which total 8 when their digits are added together).

IN NUMEROLOGY, the number 8 is considered the luckiest and most advantageous of all, Niggle said. “Eight signifies prosperity and wealth.”

When seeking good fortune, arranging a wedding or a business launch on Aug. 8 will make success more likely, Niggle added. “Weddings held on this day will be lavish and lush and bring an abundance of money and presents from wedding guests.”

A child born on this date will have a talent for great management, especially in business and financial matters, Niggle said. “He will understand the material world and intuitively know what makes virtually any endeavor prosper. His talent lies in great vision, purpose and long-range goals.”

numerology and marriage

The number 8 in popular culture:
Alice Inoue, a minister and expert in feng shui and astrology, will perform nine wedding ceremonies — so far — from 6:30 a.m. until sunset on 08-08-08. “It seems auspicious,” she explained about the day’s importance to many people. “There’s a subconscious feeling that things are lining up.”

But there’s more.

Unlike 07-07-07 last year, for instance, the number 8 carries special meaning in Lemurian numerology. If you follow the line, up and down, it’s never ending, Inoue explained. It resembles the infinity symbol and represents the connection between Earth and spirit. On yet another level, it illustrates the connection between the heart and soul. “It’s just about us coming into balance,” she said.

In astrology, the number is focused more on death and rebirth, about letting go of the old and moving into new areas. It carries a “very strong transformational energy,” Inoue explained. This is momentous because “we always want to transform into something better.”

Whether there’s any validity to the assignation of good fortune doesn’t matter, according to Inoue. “Pretty soon you start to believe there is, and it gives power to that number.” —Katherine Nichols

Famous “8s” - based on the combination of numerals in their birthdates - include Giorgio Armani, Neil Armstrong, Halle Berry, Gene Hackman, Mariska Hargitay, Richard Gere, Faith Hill, Diane Sawyer, Martin Scorsese, Don Imus, Warren Beatty, Yanni, Cate Blanchette and Robin Williams. “The 8s live for the thrill of the fight, the struggle for power and achievement. Eights are ambitious, powerful and confident. They easily intimidate others who cross their paths,” Niggle added.

In general, “the 08-08-08 date should spur something good for the economy,” she said. “Eight is very global, so we could pick up tourism from other countries and continue to be a popular tourist destination.

“Everyone’s worried about the economy, but I think we will fare better than folks on the mainland. After all, 808, Hawaii’s area code, is lucky for all of us.”
